Tips For Nylon Printing

Recently we’ve received several inquiries on how to print on Nylon.  Here are some quick tips from Ed Branigan, our Print Applications Manager:  

• Nylon fabrics can shrink when heated, so pre-shrink the fabric by running the garment through the dryer just before it’s printed.  However, some nylons are blends, so be sure to heat-test a production sample to ascertain that the fabric can withstand the heat needed to cure the ink (at least 320 F).

 

• Since nylon is made of synthetic fibers that don’t absorb the ink, use ink that is specifically formulated for printing on nylon (like International Coatings’ 900 or 9000 Series) along with a catalyst (900 Catalyst).   The catalyst creates a chemical bond to adhere the ink to the nylon fibers.

 

• If printing multiple colors, be sure to flash in-between each color.
