Have you seen all the metallics on garments lately?  Here are some more printing tips about incorporating metallics from Ed Branigan, recently published in Printwear:

The past several years have revealed a trend toward more and more use of foil and metallic ink applications, even where men’s apparel is concerned. There’s been a definite cross-over where younger men are wearing rhinestone-studded T-shirts, dress shirts and jeans and this craze doesn’t seem to abate.

In order to capitalize on this trend, create more texture and interest in a design by incorporating metallics:

  • Combine some metallic ink into a special effects base, such as a puffy, spongy base. The raised metallic effect will make designs stand out.
  • Use metallic inks and combine various parts of the design in metallic and glitter inks. The different textures will contrast each other nicely and create a trendy look.
  • Use foil as an accent rather than an overall print. Using foil only for a part of the design gives more depth and interest to the overall look of the garment.
